About GUMSA
History of GUMSA
Gulu University Medical students’ Association GUMSA was formed in 2005 so as to unite all students of the Faculty of Medicine.
Faculty of Medicine was opened on 5th October 2004 with immense support from the Italian Government through the Integrated Funding for Northern Uganda as a way of changing the face of the war torn region which has suffered from insurgency as a result of the activities of the Lord’s Resistant army(LRA) for over 20 yrs.
The Faculty operates in two campuses, one at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (Gulu Campus) and at St. Mary’s’ Hospital Lacor (Lacor Campus).
GUMSA membership comprises of full members (current medical students), associate members (graduates of medical school) and honorary members conferred upon deserving personalities by the GUMSA executive committee.
Purpose
GUMSA seeks to promote, protect, and preserve the interest of all her members and also to promote good healthy practices to the local outside community.
Aims and Objectives
• To fight for a disease free world and establish good health standards through:
• Health education to schools and public on disease, HIV/AIDS, Cholera, etc, promotion of personal hygiene, food and water hygiene, reproductive health and blood donation.
